Drum Lessons

From rock to metal, jazz to funk, blues and more, our drum teachers are well versed in all of the most popular drum styles! Drum students can expect to learn how to read drum music, learn technical exercises and of course, play along with their favorite music! Many of our drum students play in local bands and in their churches.

Our drum instructors are versed in teaching rock, jazz, metal, funk, blues, classical and more! Our instructors are always open to teaching students their favorite drum beats from any of their favorite artists!

Drum students do not need to purchase a drum set to get started! All that is needed to get started is a drum pad! A drum pad is a small round dinner-plate sized pad that rebounds the drum sticks when hit, just like a real drum head. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.

Yes. At the New City School of Music, drum lessons are available for absolute beginners all the way up to advanced students. Ages of our current drum students range from 7 to 80. We offer personalized lessons to help students reach their goals.

Yes. Many of our drum students play in local bands and in their churches. Simply let your instructor know of an upcoming performance and the songs you need to learn, and they’ll be excited to help you learn!

Learning music is not just a matter of having a qualified teacher, but also an environment that is focused on music education. Our experience – and likely yours as well – is that in home lessons , while convenient, results in poor progress and meager results. Simply by being at home, kids mentally shift into an out-of-school mindset that makes motivation and concentration difficult. In a professional school environment a student cannot be distracted by T.V., pets, ringing phones, siblings or anything else. With only ½ to one hour of lesson time per week, a professional studio can produce better results since the only focus at that time is learning music. In a studio environment, the lessons are not just a hobby or side-line for the teacher, but a responsibility which is taken very seriously.
